What profound themes we as members have, but to use them as tools and become more like our Lord through the example that has been set by our blessed Mother Mary.

The year of 2008 was a little bumpy for me as I stepped into the Diocesan Presidency in September.

Is any one ever prepared for the unexpected even if you know it is going to happen?  With two Parish Councils in our Diocese and 1200 kilometers; the Ladies were so supportive and quick to give all the help I needed.  One Council of six works with the parish to prepare for Holy Communion and Reconciliation, and Confirmation. The Council also helps with Parish functions, Pot luck Suppers, Pancake Breakfasts, Layettes for the newborn, and talks to everyone about encouraging the leagues growth.

One Parish with twenty-nine members has a greater opportunity to get into Educational Topics, with the Government, being in the same location as that Parish Council.  Three members of one Council have been elected to the Catholic School Board. Members are promoting Pro Life, and one member went to the Pro Life Healing the Culture Conference in Seattle One member attended the 49th International Eucharistic Congress in Quebec City. Three members attended the Provincial Convention at Williams Lake B.C. Two members attended the World Union of Catholic Women’s Organization, and the national Convention in Winnipeg.

Our two Councils contributed financially, and encouraged with prayers, the World Youth Day delegates, who went to Australia. All Parishes helped by giving information for development and world missions, in the third world countries. Councils contributed to matercare development and peace. Members were encouraged to look into the Coudert Bursary. All members participate as readers and Eucharistic Ministers, greeters, gift bearers, and after the mass coffee hosts.

One Council had speakers and videos on child Pornography, and trafficking to make all members aware of the situation especially with the 2010 Olympics approaching in British Columbia. I urge all members to be conscious of the bill that is being discussed about the Right to Die with Dignity, and Assisted Suicide. We are living in a society that sometimes forgets to think of others as you would think of yourselves.

May our Lady of Good Counsel bless us as we continue with our Convention and through out the year.
