Dear League Sisters and Father Tien,
Prayer for Resolutions Chairpersons
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your love, for the gifts You have given us and especially the precious gift of togetherness in The Catholic Women’s League of Canada. Help me to appreciate my journey as chairperson of resolutions, and the various responsibilities during my term of office. Lord, be with us as our Counsellor and our support as we encounter obstacles and setbacks. Help us to work with enthusiasm, patience and understanding, sharing the joy and strength we, as CWL members, can offer each other. May the tasks we share in the resolutions standing committee be a reflection of the love You alone can give. Let Your love touch others through our lives, deeds and actions. This we ask in the name of Jesus, Your Son, through the intercession of Our Lady of Good Counsel. Amen
After ‘coasting’ along as resolutions chairperson for the last little while – learning I hope and getting the background information – the work is about to begin, and I will keep this prayer in front of me.
From the three annual reports received to date, I have noted two requests. The first is a list of government contacts – I have enclosed one, and ask that you add local contacts pertinent to your diocese and share these with your parishes. The second is a request to get information on proposed resolutions out to members “sooner”. I will comment on this as we review our resolutions procedure later in this communiqué. » Read the rest of this entry »

Blessings to you and your family on this beautiful day, God has made for us.
Please note the above new themes; National “Women of Peace and Hope” and our very own provincial “Serving with Faith and Joy” they are to be used for the next two years. Our National Resolutions Chairperson Barbara Dowding said “As Women of Peace and Hope we cross all barriers when we extend a hand of comfort and welcome of friendship, understanding and compassion” I ask that you stop and ponder that…put it in context with the family, widowed, divorced, elderly, unemployed, sick, depressed etc. We can reach out and give Peace and Hope to those around us. What do we do to help bring Peace and Hope?
I have not heard from many of the Christian Family Life Chairpersons on the Diocesan Level. When you send out your next communiqué please let you ladies know that I would love to hear from them.
This is a reminder that your annual reports are due to me no later than February 15th. I have received one to date from the Diocese of Prince George.
The Government of BC resumes Feb. 26th and we must be diligent and keep up on what is happening with the old bills that may come back up with any other new ones that may be brought forward. » Read the rest of this entry »

Well the New Year is well and truly underway and I am only just getting my wishes and prayers out to you all! As we look forward to a new calendar year and League year, we are also reminded that our work as Past Presidents is ongoing and continuous regardless of the time of the year!
Elections:
Many councils are preparing for elections and I expect, as is normally the case, that the Past Presidents are involved in that process. Your involvement, enthusiasm and care for your diocesan council should prompt you to take the personal approach as much as possible. We all know that an invitation from one League Sister to another is the single best way to coax a reluctant or shy member to try. Letting one’s name stand for election takes courage but more than that it takes the support of others. We owe it to those members who have gone before and to the future success of our great organization to find and encourage women to step forward.
If you are on the nomination committee, be sure to include members that have experience in the League but who also know your members. Elections are a serious and important part of our League’s constitution and bylaws. Every effort must be made to follow the established procedure using the National Manual of Policy and Procedure (Article XV: Eligibility, Nominations and Elections, pages 85-93) as well as referencing your own diocesan policies. Be sure to work closely with your Secretary who is responsible for keeping the Register of Eligibility up to date.
If you have any questions or concerns on any part of this, please contact me. The ‘rules’ are here to help us not to make things difficult! » Read the rest of this entry »
