As this is my first communiqué, with the help of every one, thank you for your patience.

At our recent diocesan executive meeting in Whitehorse, we made a motion to increase our membership due’s from $4.00 t0 $9.00.  This will allow an increase of $5.00 to the diocese. Our membership is very small and distances to travel are great, thus our operational costs are great.

At the territorial (provincial ) level we met with the Yukon Minister of Transportation and the Yukon Minister of Health. We requested the Minister of Transportation look  into the use of cell phones while driving vehicles.  The Minister assured us the use of cell phones while driving would come to the floor of the House during the spring sitting. The Minister of Health  listened to our resolution on palliative care, and explained there are many areas of the health care system, in the Yukon, that address this issue, in a different way than the provinces, to which we were comparing palliative care. For instance they are being cared for under the hospital system in the Yukon. We still feel this is not the answer, because the hospital has no wards or staff dedicated to palliative care.  We feel this issue has yet to be resolved.

We would like to bring up again, that each parish council promote the Courdert Bursary.

Our next Diocesan Convention will be held May 1st and 2nd 2009, hosted by Our Lady of Sorrows Council in Fort Nelson, all councils are urged to contribute to the diocesan travel fund.

As we enter into the Advent Season and look forward to celebrate the birth of Christ, let me wish each and every one of you a Merry Christmas and may our Lady of Good Council guide us into the new year.
