Madam President, Reverend Fathers & Sisters of the League,

Hello, my name is Elizabeth Hoskins, President of the Victoria Diocesan Council 2008 / 2010. I present this report on behalf of our Past President – Agnes Geiger, as well as myself.

The Victoria Diocesan Council has enjoyed a productive year which included Education, Clergy Meetings Workshops, Social Events, & National Conventions, culminating this past May 5/6 with our 80th Diocesan Convention held in Courtenay.

Our Convention Theme:  “Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow, In League With God and Canada”, an appropriate theme for this special year.

“YESTERDAY IS GONE”
…  but it is prudent to take stock of our past success stories & perhaps examine our  not so  successful stories.   80 years is a lifetime.  We salute our predecessors who gave much to insure our Diocesan League continues to be strong & vibrant today….   through hard times of great depression & war, and good times of growth & prosperity. We have endured and will continue to do so, because we are Women of Faith & Women of Action.

It is said:

” TODAY IS OBSOLETE”
…..  well perhaps, but the present is wonderful to savor for the moment, to enjoy meeting & interacting with everyone here today gathered to enjoy this convention.  Today’s moments will be savored and eventually fade to happy memories.

” TOMORROW IS INCONCEIVABLE”
… .. we know this to be true, but some things are a given,   for example our choices.  The choice to serve in a leadership capacity  is a vital choice to our C.W.L.’s  future success.  Serving the League must be addressed today to insure success  tomorrow.

I will continue to work toward building confidence in our Victoria Diocesan Council.  We can always point to others we think may be more qualified, but such comparisons are not the point.   The Holy Spirit makes up the difference between our abilities and our call! Rather than comparisons, we should gain strength from others examples.

Eleanor Roosevelt, wife of the American President said:

“You MUST always strive to do the very thing you think you MOST cannot do!”

Our Diocesan Council is unique and has many gifted members.  We are not without difficulties  shared by other regions.  The journey is never easy, it wasn’t meant to be !    My goals of raising the internal profile of our Council and improvement in finances will be challenging.

WE DARE TO DREAM OF THE FUTURE! ARE WE UP TO IT?  WE CERTAINLY ARE !

Please pray for the Victoria Diocesan Council and all members of the C.W.L. as we embark on our exciting journey to the future.
