Communications, Provincial Reports Add comments

Dear League Sisters and Father Terry,

Velma Harasen, National Chairperson of Communications, sends “love and prayers as we continue our Lenten journey, and look forward to Easter, the festival of life and our celebration of hope!” With the Lenten season so early upon us this year, some of us may be searching through the dregs of winter for those signs of new life – but as we trust in the promise of green grass and flowers, may we place our trust and hope in the Risen Lord and share the Good News.

Highlights from Velma’s communiqué (please refer to national website):

World Communications Day

The theme for the 42nd World Communications Day, to be celebrated May 4, 2008 is The Media: At the Crossroads between Self-Promotion and Service. Searching for the Truth in order to Share it with Others. The complete text of Pope Benedict XVI’s message for World Communications Day can be found on the Vatican website.

Catholic Websites

You Tube and facebook, networking sites, have Catholic content, including podcasts by Archbishop Thomas Collins, of Toronto. The article warns that inappropriate content and clips from anti-Catholic groups and individuals may appear because there is no formal screening process. Other websites that you might find interesting: www.catholic.com, www.catholicgoldmine.com , www.catholic.net , www.catholic.org . Simply keying in the word “Catholic” will provide significant links.

Pornography is Nothing New!

The League has adopted resolutions pertaining to pornography, dating back to 1957. Check the League’s website for resolutions you might want to continue working on. Websites that might also be useful are www.blockchildporn.ca and www.cybertip.ca .

Annual Reports

To date, I have received only 2/6 Diocesan Annual Reports. Although many find the reporting process difficult, it can be useful as a tool in evaluating the work of your councils – and the sharing of reports is an excellent way to share ideas, give incentive to others, and reinforce our Mission Statement “calling its members to holiness through service to the people of God”. I look forward to reading all of the reports and celebrating the amazing work that is accomplished each year.

Provincial Website

Our updated provincial website is now fully operational. I hope that you are referring to it often. Register and give your feedback on site or email us with your comments. Thanks and blessings for Rebecca for all of her work.

Newsletters

Thank-you for sharing your diocesan and parish newsletters. I hope every diocese has a way of communicating with the parishes. The deadline for submissions to the next Provincial Newsletter is March 10, 2008. The newsletter will be available in time for diocesan conventions.

During this Lenten season, may we ‘communicate’ effectively in our prayers and open ourselves to receive the many gifts God offers; and, in thanksgiving, may we share our abundant gifts with all people, and let them experience God’s love through us.

Love and prayers to all for the hope and joy that Easter brings,

Sandra
