Greetings:
A New Year’s Blessing
May you be the one with welcome in your smile and hello etched upon your hand, the hand you extend to everyone who blesses you with presence. ~Luke 7:36-50
General Information:
Life members are members of their diocesan and provincial councils, but are not part of the diocesan and provincial executives. They do not attend the executive meetings unless requested to do so by the executive. They, therefore, do not automatically receive the minutes. Life members do not have the authority to communicate the business carried out at these executive meetings. All members are welcome to express their views to the executive members. As life members we can best support the new and younger executive members by respecting their ability to make decisions on League matters. » Read the rest of this entry »

Dear League Sisters and Father Terry,
Velma Harasen, National Chairperson of Communications, sends “love and prayers as we continue our Lenten journey, and look forward to Easter, the festival of life and our celebration of hope!” With the Lenten season so early upon us this year, some of us may be searching through the dregs of winter for those signs of new life – but as we trust in the promise of green grass and flowers, may we place our trust and hope in the Risen Lord and share the Good News.
Highlights from Velma’s communiqué (please refer to national website):
World Communications Day
The theme for the 42nd World Communications Day, to be celebrated May 4, 2008 is The Media: At the Crossroads between Self-Promotion and Service. Searching for the Truth in order to Share it with Others. The complete text of Pope Benedict XVI’s message for World Communications Day can be found on the Vatican website. » Read the rest of this entry »

Dear League Sisters,
As I am writing this communiqué, I am watching the snow fall, quickly piling up in my yard. We are into the Lenten season but it is hard to think of preparing for Easter and spring, with all this snow.
We were back at Rosemary Heights for our winter mid-term meeting January 25 – 27. I have attached my mid-term report with this communiqué.
Marriage and Family
St Joseph’s Workers for Life and Family has a 10 CD audio set entitled Naked Without Shame – A Crash Course in the Theology of the Body. The series explains John Paul II insights on marriage and sexuality in a clear and dynamic way. I will snail mail information. It can also be accessed on their website www.sjw.ca. This is a fantastic course that, with the tapes, you can facilitate it in your parish. Hopefully you have ordered copies of Families, where are the saints of the third millennium? at only .40 each from Catholic Organization for Life and Family (COLF). It can be ordered online www.colf.ca, or by phone (613) 241-9461. It can also be printed off their website. » Read the rest of this entry »

It is Ash Wednesday today and the beginning of Lent. May this holy season bring us closer to God and give us a greater awareness of our duties to God and neighbour. Help us to be aware of those who are suffering materially, physically and spiritually throughout the world. May we be in solidarity with them with our Lenten sacrifices.
I am pleased to report that I have received two annual reports to date and look forward to receiving the other four by the deadline February 15. Please email your reports asap.
Would the Diocesan Chairpersons please note that I send a copy of my communiqués to the National Chairperson so she knows what I am doing. Despite my pleas, I have not received copies of diocesan chairperson’s reports to their parish councils; this is with the exception of Vancouver and Prince George. I have no clue of what the other Dioceses are doing. It is simply a matter of clicking an email button and I would have it. I hate to keep harping on this but it is important. Share with other Diocesan chairpersons too. » Read the rest of this entry »

Encl: Member Tracking Form
Membership
We have a great organization and with a great deal to offer to all the women in our parishes. An organization that strives to live out the Catholic ideal in church and family; that recognizes the human dignity of all people; to uphold and defend Christian education and values in this world of ours as well as contributing to the understanding & growth of religious freedom, social justice, peace & harmony.
It is important to be welcoming, to make a place for the ladies who are busy with families or perhaps working by being flexible with meeting times. Maintain contact and keep members who cannot attend meetings informed by sending/posting the minutes or a newsletter; or with a phone call. There is a place for women of all ages, working or retired to belong in the League. » Read the rest of this entry »

Greetings on this blustery Shrove Tuesday,
First of all I share with you the exciting news, to date I have received titles of nine proposed resolutions from two dioceses. Should the other four dioceses be contemplating submitting a resolutions(s) the titles must be sent to me right away so that they can be forwarded to National by February 15th.
New Criteria
From my last communique (with enclosures) you would have received the updated check-list and guidelines for resolutions being presented this year which I trust have been forwarded to parish counterparts. Parish council committees working on resolutions must have these guidelines to follow in order to avoid disappointment and frustration when resolutions are not accepted.
National Resolutions chairperson reminder ‘background material and research must be from original sources, not from newspaper clippings, opinions or website information. Material cannot be plagiarized and credit must be given to the originating sources’. » Read the rest of this entry »

Hello once again;
I pray all is well with you and your families, and that the weather is kind to you all. It is really cold here!
Reminder: To the Diocesan Spiritual Chairpersons to send me their annual report by February 15th, of 2008. Thank you to those who have already sent them. It looks from the reading I have done so far, your diocese is busy and loving the League.
Encyclical Letter: Pope Benedict has written another encyclical letter, Spe Salvi (saved through hope). I received a copy from our Provincial President and have started to read it. The opening of the letter tells us where SPE SALVI comes from. Pope Benedict says that “In hope we are saved” he also said “Man is redeemed by love, which makes one’s personal and social life good and beautiful. This is why the great hope, the full and definitive one, is guaranteed by God who is love, by god who has visited us and has given us life in Jesus, and who will return at the end of time. We hope in Christ, we await him! With Mary, his Mother, the Church goes to meet her Spouse: she does so with work of charity, because hope, like faith, is demonstrated in love.” Does that not make you want to get the letter and read it. It is another gem. » Read the rest of this entry »
