Whitehorse: President’s Report 2007
Submitted by: Nicole G.
CWL has once again realized a fulfilling year in all our endeavors. With an ongoing increase in membership we continue to be able to contribute to the vision of the Catholic Women’s League of Canada through our service to God and Canada. We are so blessed to be a part of the largest national organization of Catholic women in Canada. We were present in the community with many of our known activities such as Hot Dog & Muffin Sundays, Bake Sales, Knights of Columbus Yard Sale, WRAP Campaign, Welcome to Winter Ball & Talent Auction, Baskets of Baking Raffles to name but a few.
The most exciting task that was fulfilled over the past year was that of hosting our CWL sisters at the B.C./Yukon Provincial Convention which was held last June here in Whitehorse. Over 140 ladies and their families made the trek north to visit our beautiful city and I can honestly say that they were not disappointed – the event was more successful than we had even planned it to be!
Our membership supports various organizations throughout Whitehorse and we continue to be mindful of the causes and situations that are arising in our seemingly uncertain world. One of our goals for the coming year is to present ourselves more frequently to the different levels of government in order to bring forward resolutions that are researched and written by CWL councils around the country and then approved at national conventions. This is a learning curve for all of us but we are committed to learning the “ropes” of our political system to further the fight against the issues which we identify as being important to us as individuals, important to the League and, ultimately, important to the Church.
Our monthly meetings are a time of reflection through our spiritual programs, a chance to volunteer our services for our community and an opportunity to meet for friendship as we take a break from our busy lives to come together for socializing.
We are blessed to be a part of such a rich Catholic community. We are thankful for our friends and family, priests and bishop, parish workers and those in the missions for all the work they do and will continue to support them in any way that we can.
